I have had my chance to have a go at the upcoming new bit of gaming kit on the market the Nintendo 3DS.
In fairness I have not been able to try any games just look at the dashboard programme and see the 3D effects for myself.
The effects work and the 3D kit looks pretty cool. The programI was looking at was a menu where the icons looked like planets and as you moved between icons they revolved round in fancy 3D fashion. You have the option to turn the 3D effect down. When looking at the top screen it bsically looks like the screen is further in than it looks creating the 3D look. I'm unsure at this stage how the technology works, this is just a first look.
There is also a 3D camera which just seems pointless, it works but like the camera on your phone just seems pointless.
I was suprised how small it was compared to the XLDS. No doubt Nintendo being the marketing experts will hold off a larger release at a later date.
This brief preview was not enough to convince me to put down a £30 deposit for a device that will retail at between £200-£230 on release.
I can't judge on the games as I did not get a chance to play any. But from what I hear the best games including Zelda, Metal Gear and a new Mario will not be released till later.
There is no doubt this will sell like crazy as it appeals to the kids and familys. Nintendo knows what they are doing. However, depending what type of gamer you are I would reccommend waiting till a price drop and better games being released.
A quick note on the potential damage the 3D technology can do to your eye. From what I have read on News websites it sounds like this is only if you play constantly without a break. Like with any close task you really should be taking breaks from computer stuff every hour. Taking breaks doesn't just give your eyes a break it also lets your body calm down for a bit too. You may find those long nights on Halo a lot more cheerful with regular breaks.
Have a mad one
